$16.75/hr. per 2021-2025 RPEA Master Agreement

 

Monday - Friday following 2024-2025 School Schedule

 

 

REPORT TO:  Special Education Director

 

CALENDAR:   Follows regular school calendar when students attend. May be noted exceptions for specific district initiatives, such as a professional development requirement.

 

BASIC FUNCTION: To support the safe and reliable transportation of students by assisting the bus driver with the movement, management and medical care of students while they are being transported to an assigned destination as well as when they are boarding or leaving the vehicle.

 

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  3. High attention to detail and dexterity, particularly in safely using medical equipment, restraints, and securing wheelchairs.
  4. Ability to work directly with students in a professional manner and provide clear instructions as needed.
  5. Patience and the ability to effectively interact with students, teachers, parents, and staff, maintaining a professional rapport.
  6. Flexibility to work independently and exercise good judgment, especially when addressing inappropriate student behavior or medical emergencies.
  7. Cultural competence and the necessary social and academic skills to support a diverse student population.
  8. Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  9. Physical ability to lift and carry equipment or materials; stand for extended periods; bend, kneel, crouch, or reach to assist students; and work outdoors in varying temperatures.
  10. Basic knowledge of medical procedures and the ability to assist with student health needs.

 

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Assist students with safe entry and exit from the bus, ensuring proper use of seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints.
  • Provide medical assistance to students as needed, including administering medication, monitoring health conditions, and responding to medical emergencies.
  • Serve as a role model for students by demonstrating a positive attitude, good moral character, and integrity.
  • Monitor students at all times to ensure safety regulations and conduct rules are followed.
  • Document and report any violations, conduct concerns, or medical incidents to the appropriate authority.
  • Assist in the physical evacuation of passengers in case of an emergency.
  • Ensure students take their belongings when leaving the bus or classroom.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in interactions with students, parents, school personnel, and colleagues, always promoting a positive environment.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
  • Report to duty on time and perform all responsibilities safely and efficiently.
  • Provide support as needed throughout the building, including supervision during non-instructional periods, assisting with classroom materials setup, and other tasks to ensure smooth building operations.
  • Assist with the delivery of materials, supervision of hallway traffic, and emergency building situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or building administrator, including specific medical tasks as required.

 

SALARY:  The hourly wage will be paid from the Categorical Classification Schedule per the Rochester Paraeducator Association Master Agreement.
