- Must hold valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in area of responsibility.
- Bachelor’s Degree in area of major study.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: To create a flexible elementary grade program and class environment to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary education.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, and health to students in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education.

Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the School District.

Develops lessons plans and instructional materials and provides individualizes and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the school District.

Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize a functional time for instruction.

Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Evaluates students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate Records, and prepares progress reports.

Communicates with parents through conferences, Meet the Teacher Night and other means to discuss student progress and interpret in school program.

Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

Creates a functional learning environment through attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.

Maintains professional competence though in-service education activities provided by the District and/or self-selected
professional growth activities.

Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.

Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.

Administers group standardizes tests in accordance with District testing program.

Participates in Faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

Participates in Curriculum development programs as required.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
